About Lilies

Lilies are one of the most exquisite and lovely flowers. Lilies are usually associated with wealth, beauty, luxury and wonder. These flowers carry with themselves a certain innate elegance and exquisiteness. Thus lilies can be considered as being superior to all the flowers, particularly because of this elegant and exquisite nature. Lily can be seen as a sort of "queen" among the flowers, ruling over the others. This lovely and wonderful flower will be examined in what follows. I would like to present some ideas about this lovely flower.

Lilies are native to the northern temperate regions of the world. There are for over 100 well-known species. Lilies can be found in Europe, the north Mediterranean, most of Asia: India, Japan, Philippines as well as USA and Canada.Lilies can be regarded leafy stemmed herbs. Most of the species form stem-roots. Together with these the bulbs grow naturally at some depth in the year the new stem puts out adventitious roots above the bulb as it emerges from the soil. The large flowers have six petals, often fragrant, and come in a range of colors ranging through whites, yellows, oranges, pinks, reds and purples. Markings include spots, brush strokes and picotees. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lily

The plants are summer flowering. Many species are widely grown in the garden in temperate and sub-tropical regions. Sometimes they may also be grown as potted plants. Lilies will confer your garden a particularly elegant aspect. Lilies don’t only charm our eyes but also our senses with their fragrance. Their fragrance is a very powerful one, which delights our senses and makes us recall distant and wonderful memories from the past. Thus lilies are much preferred garden flowers. When planting them there are some golden rules that should be respected. If you obey these rules, you will have very favorable results.

The first and foremost important detail is to choose the right location. Lilies are flowers, that require direct sunlight for most of the part of the day. Besides sunlight lilies need a well drained soil as well. Related to planting, lilies should be planted to a depth of 6 inches and from 12 to 16 inches apart. The bulbs should be placed with its roots down and scale pointing up. The soil should be well packed around the bulb. After this they will only need a thorough watering. Lilies make a nice show if they are planted in triangular groups of 3 per variety.
Fertilizing is also another key issue. Fertilizers should be applied just before flowering and after blooming is completed to keep the bulbs healthy. Thus if these 3 golden rules are obeyed, the results will be charming. http://www.lilynook.mb.ca/Lily%20Planting%20&%20Care.htm

Lilies can be definitely considered one of the most liked and generally preferred flowers. Lilies have conquered us through their beauty and exquisiteness, and now we simply cannot imagine a special event without them. Sending or giving lilies to their dear ones is a very nice and mostly appreciated thing to do. Lilies are practically present at all of the major events of our life. In Romania lilies are also liked and preferred to other flowers. Lilies are mostly used for decorations, as well as for beautiful flower arrangements and compositions.
Lilies’ popularity is concretized in a festival. There is an annual festival in Canada dedicated to the celebration of these wonderful and unique flowers. The Neepawa & Area Lily Festival has come to celebrate its 12th year anniversary this year between 18-20 of July. Those interested in this event can read more about this event on the following website: http://www.lilyfestival.com
